Recognition Policy

Purpose

In Deeping St Nicholas Parish many parishioners contribute in their own way, or via a local organisation, for the benefit of the parish as a whole, which is seen as normal involvement in the community. However, occasionally a person living or working within the parish, or a parish-based group, goes beyond this and does something extra or additional which benefits the community and the parish. This may be by one major act or a series of smaller acts. Deeping St Nicholas Parish Council wishes to recognise their contribution, made quietly and without drama, by means of an award.

Process of making an award

Such awards shall be nominated and seconded by parish councillors and agreed by a minimum of three parish councillors to include the Chair or Vice-Chair, or by the HR committee recommendation. To ensure prompt recognition, this need not be agreed at full council meetings.

Current parish councillors will not be eligible for such an award.

Awards will be funded from the Chair’s allowance, as agreed annually, and as provided under S15.5 of the LGA 1972.

Type of award

This award may take the form of a suitable letter of appreciation, to be signed by the Chair, thanking the nominee for their actions or achievements. Alternatively, it may take the form of a small gift, not to exceed an agreed amount.
In either case the award will be presented to the nominee in person by the Chair, as soon as possible after the action or nomination giving rise to the award.

This is a non-contractual policy and process which will be reviewed from time to time.
